I say only do this when trying to prove something is good or worked. I agree with #3 also because if you give up on your readers, what are they suppose to do? They are going to give up on you back. The rest of your list is great and not much more could be said on top of what you have said.

Entrepreneur Blog's last blog post..Four Tier Annilhilation Review - My Personal Recommendation

Re: 10 Ways Not to Communicate with your Readers

Quite an article. Maybe oneone should send dell or AT&T a link, but then again, they probably allready have a answaringmachine programmed with "This is what you don't say to the customers - but do it anyway" - "Welcome to AT&T, you are number 231 in the line, don't hang up your call are very important to us, you mig be here for 1 hour 45 minutes, but your time is not as important as our, please don't hang up"

Re: 10 Ways Not to Communicate with your Readers

Richard - I know what you mean. Sometimes, it's so irritating when people rambl eon about something irrelevant.

Re: 10 Ways Not to Communicate with your Readers

The point about "keeping things short" had my attention :). Seriously, though I hate it when people drone on about something which could have been summarized in a couple of sentences.

Re: 10 Ways Not to Communicate with your Readers

WI,

I completely agree. I would much rather admit that I don't know something than get caught in a lie later. There's no surer way to kill your respect than to be caught bullsh!tting.

Sara

Re: 10 Ways Not to Communicate with your Readers

Guilty of some of the items mentioned. But I learned from them. If I don't know something I will rather tell the customer that than make something up. I used to think I would look stupid for not knowing the answer to a question. Guess what: it's worse when you just make something up and it turns out not to be true! Than you really look stupid and worse.
Live it learn it!

Re: 10 Ways Not to Communicate with your Readers

Jamie,

I'm glad you liked the post. I think sometimes people are afraid to give info because they think it isn't what people want to hear. However, I'd rather hear the worst than wait for three hours not knowing what is going on and THEN hear the worst. =)

Sara

Re: 10 Ways Not to Communicate with your Readers

Interesting post, Sara.

I especially like the point about 'failure to inform'. I absolutely hate it when I'm not kept up to date when there is a problem.

I was holidaying in Corfu recently when there were problems with our transfer from the airport to the apartment (and vice versa on the way back). We weren't kept up to date with what was going on, and so, as you can imagine, at 2am in the morning, stood outside an airport wondering why we weren't allowed to move, people were getting very annoyed.

A quick update to honestly explain the situation would have helped so much.

Bang! Idea for a blog post. Link love coming your way later today, Sara. :D

Jamie Harrop's last blog post..Welcome John Chow Dot Com Readers!
