Pajama Professional: Out of Office Posts

It is always a bummer when you have to disconnect from your readers for a while. I always try to have some articles prewritten and then I ask one of my friends to post them for me throughout the time I am gone. That way to your readers it looks like you never miss a beat.

I think that the best option is to schedule posts for the absence. I must say I don't care for posts saying someone will be away. If the options is just a gap of 4 weeks or a post saying the person will be gone for 4 weeks, the gap is fine with me. Some people might feel differently but that is my opinion.

good idea. it's always disheartening to stumble on a new blog and have the first entry be them telling you that the author is going away. also, once they come back that entry has not meaning anymore and just takes up space on the page from "actual" articles.

I definitely think it is best to inform your readers except that many of us will be jealous of your 6 week vacation.

It´s a good idea to let your readers know that you will not be blogging for a little while.I blog everyday because my readers expect a new post, so I write posts in advance and then just publish everyday, it takes only a few minutes to login (any computer with internet access will do) and hit the publish button.

I personally believe that the best way is to have created posts in advance or to have someone guest post for you while you're away.

If you're posting daily a change to every second or third day probably won't matter so most readers and it'll take some load of the amount of posts you would need to prepare in advance.

The idea by orovo is great...In fact, that's what I intend to write in here before I noticed his comment. Simply have your posts pre-written and get someone to post it on your behalf while you're away. I can't think of a better way than this.

A lot of readers like continuity in a blog. They somehow get hooked on to the delicious content that a blogger gives them on a daily basis and faithfully come very day to check for the latest post. If they go hungry once they are then capable of searching for similar blogs with similar posts. And thats where the loss can hurt. The reader may never come back again and may even forget the url by the time you decide to post again without keeping your status updated.

    Good reminder

That's a great post Sara. It's always good to have a decent relationship with your readers. Tell your readers and they will look after our blog when your away.lol

What I like to do is write articles in advance and then take advantage of the ability to schedule when they get published. It depends though really on the whole content and audience of the blog. I try to post at least once a week of each of my sites - some though occasionally will go longer.

    Hello,

This is really a very good post. Even If its a "advance Post". But it would be really nice if we can just write some pros and cons of the tools we are using. For example I am using BlogJet, its a nice tool but have a some problem with getting the text format right.

    A few other solutions...

Bring someone else in to hold down the fort while you're away...

    or

Pre-write some "evergreen" posts that you can schedule to drop while you're away.

Personally, I'd combine your idea of giving readers a message with one of those.

This is a good post and I too agree that it is the best to let your readers know that you would be away for a while.

thanks , for me i prefer write some posts and schedule it , but the problem is comments will be not answered for a while
  • Cherry Blossom · 10 months ago
Agree that ideally you should get someone to look after your site while you're gone - even just cleaning up spam comments. Telling people you'll be away for a while invites hackers and other lowlife to try and take advantage of your absence.

I agree with your words that the blog owners should not comment upon that they are not blogging for some days. It will leave a bad impression sometimes. Thanks for sharing.

I agree that telling or not telling depends on the posting frequency.

Most of the time, if you gone, I am you have access to the internet. How about just prepare some articles and post while your on vacation and answer a few comments. No one would know that the site has been neglected much.

    Hi Sara,

I believe that telling your readers is always a good idea. As it can make your readers aware that you won't be able to post. And also gives them a deadline that when you will be back.
